The Importance of Choosing a Bonded Landscaper

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It is an often-repeated saying that few people realize is applicable even when hiring a landscaping service. While practically anyone can call themselves landscape designers and dig a hole or two in the ground, it takes a licensed and bonded landscaping professional to do landscaping right.

Licensed Landscape Architects

It is a common misbelief that all landscapers in Miami and South Florida need to be licensed. The truth is that only landscape architects need to be licensed. At Plant Professionals, our landscape architects are fully licensed to practice in the state of Florida. These individuals work closely with our landscaping teams to ensure that every bush, shrub, tree and paving stone are properly placed and installed in the client’s landscape.

Bonded & Insured

The bonding we carry protects clients against property damage or defects in service, including failure to secure the proper permits, planting of foliage prohibited by law, violation of easements, etc. This is covered under the general liability clauses of the insurance policy. For example, if a backhoe strikes an underground sprinkler system and causes a leak. The surety bond we carry ensures that damage caused by vehicles or employees can be taken care of promptly and at no expense to the client.

Ultimately, hiring insured landscapers means that the client won’t get soaked if the sprinklers get clipped or the masonry on the patio gets chipped.

This is important because homeowners insurance policies typically won’t cover damage caused by the services a landscaping company provides. In their view, it is the responsibility of the homeowner to verify that the landscaper is bonded and licensed before allowing them to perform work on the property. Hiring an uninsured landscaper could expose the homeowner to a considerable level of risk should something go wrong.

Professional Surety Bonds

In the landscaping industry, surety is assurance, and the best landscaping companies in Miami all carry significant surety bonds to protect their clients, their business and their reputations. For the same reasons, the vast majority of suppliers and subcontractors will only work with landscapers who are insured. Bonding ensures that they won’t be left holding the bag for landscaping materials that were delivered but never paid for.
